Once you have passed by San Vito di Cadore, you will see a spectacular view as the wide Valle Ampezzana opens up, surrounded by imposing peaks. This is perhaps the busiest road leading to Cortina, but also the only one that doesn't involve going over a mountain pass. From the South, you can reach Cortina d'Ampezzo on the A27 from Mestre to Pian di Vodoja (Belluno) and then on the SS 51 d'Alemagna. From Mestre, it takes about 2 hours. From the A22 Brennero motorway, to the North, at the Bressanone exit, you can take the SS towards Dobbiaco. From Bressanone, you can reach Cortina in about 1 hour. The SS 51 d'Alemagna runs through Cortina from North to South, and the SS 48bis delle Dolomiti from East to West. When you reach Cortina from the South, you will find signs to Passo Tre Croci - Auronzo - Misurina (SS48 bis delle Dolomiti) in that order to the East; Dobbiaco - Bolzano - Brennero (SS51 d'Alemagna) to the North; Passo Falzarego, Passo Pordoi (SS48 bis delle Dolomiti) to the West. By Plane: The main airport is Venice Marco Polo. Other nearby airports are Treviso, Verona and Innsbruck in Austria. Cortina is 162 km from Venice, 432 km from Milan, 692 km from Rome and 156 km from Innsbruck. Venice airport is connected to the nearby Mestre-Venezia station by scheduled bus services. The main train line is the Venezia S. Lucia ? Calalzo di Cadore line, from where there is a bus service for Cortina, which connects with the trains. The nearest train station is in Calalzo di Cadore, 35 km to the South. The journey from Venice to Cortina (train and bus) takes about 3.5 hours. To the North the train line is the Fortezza ? Dobbiaco line. There is a bus service connection from here too (www.sii.bz.it). It takes about 2 hours from Fortezza to Cortina (train and bus). From Innsbruck, trains leave almost every hour from 11.30 am to 8.00 pm. It takes 4 hours to reach Cortina. |
